Meet-cha Day!

Dearest Support Team,

Where do I begin? I wish I had the energy to go into detail as to how our day went, but I am running on low and promise to add more juice tomorrow. I could NOT go to bed without sending a quick update to my prayer warriors and support team now, could I? We felt your love all the way from there. Thank you.

Our trip went very smoothly. (Sorry Bryants...no exciting pothole stories to share. You got us beat there!). The train ride was very comfortable and only took 3 hours. We took a taxi into town and met with the lawyer, Natasha, who has her finger on the pulse of this city and any adoption that takes place here. NOTHING can happen without her. In fact, Yuri gets to sit back and relax while she does the job he normally does. She actually interviewed us before we could go to another location to pick up yet another form to visit the orphanage. We had to wait until 2 to go there because the orphange was having state officials come in to inaugurate a brand new play ground at their facility.

I hope my pictures I will attach on Snapfish soon will do justice to what we are seeing here. The city is 300 years old and VERY run down. Jacob, do you remember looking at all the beautiful churches and saying, "Well, it doesn't look like a poor country!" You should see it. It's quite sad. However, we were both pleasantly surprised when we pulled up to the orphanage. It's actually quite nice. Again, tons of pictures coming your way soon so you can all see.

We went into the orphanage along with a troop of approximately 7 or 8 women and Yuri....all watching every move Lamar and I made. We sat there with the pediatrician, laywer, guidance counselor, administrator and others (whom I can only presume were the cooks, custodians, and grounds keepers because I ran out of titles to pass around). The door was opened by a nurse and all I can remember is seeing two little boys looking a little confused but happy holding hands as they walk in. Lamar and I immediately jumped from our seats and fell to the ground to their level. Lamar was warned they might not take to males right away. Phewey on that! They obviously had never met a Lamar before. He pulled out two matchbox cars we bought in Kiev and they were all down on the ground racing cars over my legs and their arms and Lamar's feet. And then Yarik giggled and I lost it. I promised Lamar beforehand that I wouldn't scare them by sobbing hysterically like every fiber in my being wanted to. I stayed under control, swallowed the lump in my throat and just laughed and laughed with the precious angels. I totally forgot we had a group of women around us monitoring every single motion, action and reaction. The moments flew by way too quickly and we had to move to a different move. I stood up and each boy reached for my hands. My heart melted. I held each of their hands as we walked down the hall to the next room. Let me tell you, their hands just fit perfectly in mine. It felt right. It felt safe. If felt amazing!

Well, Lamar and I proceed to sit on the floor and play with the boys while each person takes a turn spitting tons of information at as about the boys. From what I remember we were told that Nikolai, the eldest, is very protective of his youngest brothers and is very helpful with the group. He always stays behind and helps the slower ones with their shoes (Awww!). He is popular in his group because everyone enjoys his spirit. He is kind-hearted and fun. He enjoys being around people and they can tell he wants to learn so much more but is limited there. He likes to snuggles, doesn't throw tantrums, and eats everything! He gets a rash when he drinks tomato juice (sound familiar, Mom!), or too sweet of a dessert (I'll break him of that!) He has a problem with his "r's" but nothing that isn't age appropriate. (By the way....I sure couldn't detect any deficiency with his language. His Russian gibberish sounded right on to me!) Yarik's personality is very different. He, too, eat everything and doesn't throw fits (yeah~!). He LOVES to explore and is quick to pick things up. He is very bright and has the most contagious laugh. He also walks around with his chest pumped out like he can conquer the world. NO problem whatsoever with confidence. He is NOT shy. He was all over us very quickly. It was too much.

Alright, here I said I was going to keep it short and I've already rambled on. Well, I might as well keep going.

They had to go nap so they blew us kisses as the nurse came back and took them away. We talked with the pediatrician and others. Then we went to the grocery store and came back at 4:30 and visited some more with them....and without such a big audience...and that's when we REALLY got to know their little personalities. (I also got to bring out my camera!) Yarik is fearless and he is everywhere. He is a mess...and we love it! We just chase him around doing damage control. Nikolai LOVES guns. Everything he picks up turns out to be a gun. At one point and time he was shooting Lamar with a gun while fake talking into the cell phone at the same time. He's a multi-tasker I presume. He would pick up every gun he could find, or anything that even closely resembled a gun, and put it in a bag he would carry around and not put down. I gave him pictures of Joshua and Jacob and they went in that bag. You couldn't pry that bag out of his hand. I think it is part of the "hoarding" that goes on with growing up in an orphanage. It's precious but also sad.

Again, the time went by way too quickly. Yuri left and went to talk to Natasha after we gave him a very big nod that "YES! WE WANT THESE BOYS!" A lot of negotiation had to take place. Long story short- tomorrow we are off to visit all the other orphanages the other 4 siblings belong to so we can obtain separation letter. We have until Friday to get them together. Apparently we will be heading North to one region and South to another...go figure! Natasha has to accompany us so we have to work around her schedule. On Friday we will be reviewed by a board. There's a ton more steps after that but I just want to take it step by step. There is a good chance we WILL be coming home with the boys together. We will see. Please pray that works out and our 10 days can be waivered by the court.

Well, my head is spinning and I'm losing my connection. I will post the pictures in the morning. I promised Joshua and Jacob they would see them first! You can understand that!!!

Love you all and thanks for the awesome comments.

God bless and good night.

Kris

  1. WOW Kris - I don't believe I'll need to cry again in a long while, as my tear ducts have surely received a workout during this and other blogs, but happy tears are ALWAYS the best, huh?

Ginny just called a bit ago - they were almost home - she asked if there was a new blog and I said no, but told her I'd been checking about every hour. When I just saw this, I quickly picked up my phone - Louis answered and I told him to tell her there was a new posting! Am sure she's reading it as we speak!

Kris, Nickolai sounds like the little boy we saw at Victoria's play - remember, using the Flag to shoot people in the pews! How funny that you would experience that encounter with the newest member of your family! Maybe that was a sign from above - ya think?

Anyway, can't wait to see the pictures and look forward to reading more as things progress.

Love and prayers - I'm SO excited for you guys. Hey - a note here: I was talking w/Sandra and I said there would be "5 Guys" in your household - think they'll like hamburgers? HA!

    Love,
    Aunt Betsy

We are so excited to see the pictures of the boys and can't wait to eventually meet them with the whole family this time :). Hope you get some rest tonight and get prepared for all the running around in the coming days, good luck! We love you guys and are praying for the boys to be able to come home with you this trip.

    Love,

  3. YAAAY! We have been waiting in front of our computer anxiously for this posting as our prayer candle burns steadfastly in our kitchen. We have been sending the vibes and prayers thinking of your introduction to your new sons. I can remember the feeling of pure joy that overtakes you when you see your future smiling you back in the face....it truly makes you know HE is with you every step of the way!

That is so wonderful about the Lawyer's connections. Ukraine is so fickle about the waiting period, it definitely helps to have someone really plugged into the legal department.

There will be some stress ahead with all the "timelines" associated with translations and Notaries working hrs, birth certificates in other towns, etc. But as long as you remember HE is in charge, and you really have no control over what the court will decide it will be easier to concentrate on each step in the very convoluted process. Yuri will keep you on track.

In the meantime-- Rejoice in the discovery of your new sons. Spend as much time as you can with them, so you can get a baseline of their schedules and habits at the orphanage. A lot of times you can ask the care givers to write it down for you.

We are saying more prayers for the waiver on the waiting period and all the letters from family to be taken care of without any issues.

    Lots of love,
    TEAM CHAOS

p.s. Special Bro hug to Lamar--so happy for you man !! Don't forget to Hydrate, Caffinate, and laugh at the crazy ride of "Ukrainian timelines vs legal due process"

Your descriptions of the boys are wonderful, they are Douberly's that's for certain, they just didn't know it until now. I can already imagine your house with the boys in it. They are perfect for you and you for them. God has blessed you, he is GOOD. Saw your parents and the boys today, they are great! Don't worry about them. I am babbling, it is hard to see the keys through the tears of joys. Love, hugs and kisses to you both. Time to go do the happy dance. Love, The Thoroman's

  6. Hi,
Carolyn just spent an hour typing a response when the site went down just as she was posting it. She is devistated. I will try and pass on the points she had entered.
The boys were ecstatic to see the pictures of their new brothers. They were both pleased to see that both boys had hair! Jacob commented that his mom looked like she was crying. Carolyn explained that they were tears of joy. The smile on Lamar's face says it all! We could not believe how happy and comfortable all of you looked. We are praying for you constantly. God bless you on your trip tommorrow. Please do not worry about Joushua and Jacob. They are ready for the first day of First and Third Grades. Back packs, outfits, and lunch boxes are ready. Let go, let God. Love Joushua, Jacob, Dad and Mom.

  13. Kris and Lamar, Dad and I just got back in town and we are so excited about our new grandsons! Lamar I don't know if I will ever erase the message on my cell phone when you made the call about your wonderful news and the BOYS. Kris, never would I be disappointed that you have BOYS instead of a "girl." As a matter of fact, I told Kay and June at work over a week ago to not be surprised if you came home with one or two sons. Maybe that was a little "divine intervention to me from above." I couldn't be happier. I can't wait to see the pictures.

I have been following the Blogspot through Aunt Betsy and Dee. We didn't have service out in the area where we were camping. I couldn't wait to get home and read everything. You and Lamar have done such a wonderful job in informing everyone of what is taking place. You will remain in our constant prayers so that things will continue to run smoothly with getting the proper forms and release letters signed and in order so that Drew and Alex can come home with you. Please know how much everyone is loved and prayed for. Take care and keep up the great Blogspot. Love, Mom and Dad

  18. Oh Good Lord!!! This is CRAZINESS!!! I cannot even imagine what you guys are going through! DBCOCD is totally NOT under control! I know it is bad because Kona wakes up about a dozen times a night, and every time he gets up, I have to check the blog! Oh, I am a hopeless case.

I think everyone has pretty much said everyting what I wanted to say. I hate to ditto everyone, but ditto! The only thing I am a little worried about is the fact that your pantry may not be big enough! You may need a frequent flyer card for Golden Corrall, Old Town Buffet and any other all you can eat buffets! I mean I know how much Josh and Jake can eat, and now you have 2 more that can eat!!! Oh my goodness!! Whew!

But on a serious note, I am so very happy for you all!! This is the perfect family for you! God is Good! I cannot wait to see the pictures! I love you all, and hope that everything goes smoothly. I hope you know that we support you 100%! This journey is not yours to decide. God is in control and you are just acting on His plan. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us!! This is definitely a very juicy chapter in the Douberly book of life!!! Thank you for including us in your journey!!!

WE love you and are praying for you!!! Thank you for the updates!!

    Congratulations!!!
    Love you!!!
