Project Escape Kiev...Day 2

Have you ever seen such a McSmile?Alex enjoys sharing his first French Fry ever with Daddy
Alex and Daddy on a Ferris Wheel in Kirovograd

Mommy and Andrew have fun at a park in Kirovograd

Good evening,
As I sit down and reflect on our day here in Kiev, it blows my mind that the boys have only been with us for less than a week. Today was incredible! We went the entire day without any meltdowns from Alex. Don't get me wrong...he let us know in his very own special way that he still doesn't dig having showers or his teeth brushed. However, no temper tantrums or fits. Yeah!
The highlight of my day was just now while I was putting them down to bed. We said our prayers. They kneel beside me and while I say the "Lord's Prayer" they do their own sweet gibberish Ukrainian versions along with me. Then, as we laid in bed together I sang them some songs. Even though they have NEVER heard these songs before and have NO idea what I'm singing, they both sang along with me. It was the sweetest, funniest thing I ever heard. I had to wipe tears from my eyes because I was laughing so hard. It was precious. If I can somehow get a recording of this, you too, could be sore in the abs from the laughter. I'll see what I can do...
Tonight we went out for a delicious Ukrainian feast. It still suprises me what the boys will eat. They had egg plant, yellow and red peppers, cucumbers, black olives, borsh (beats and cabbage), and a part of Lamar's finger because it got too close to the trap he was feeding! We then went for a nice long walk and found a place we had heard about that had delicious desserts. The boys didn't leave a crumb! What a treat!
Well, we will catch up more tomorrow. We are both tired and ready to kick back and relax.
Love to you all.
Kris
PS If you want to see more pictures they are posted in a Snapfish album on the side. Enjoy!

  1. I was just checking your Snapfish pics, wow, that park in Kirovograd is AMAZING! We NEVER saw a park like that in Kiev or Zaporyzchia! That was pretty special, glad you got all those pics! I have to say, your boys (Alex) is moving along at rocket pace (typical Douberly).....Max still has total meltdowns when sitting in timeout. I'm glad you got a picture of Alex just sitting there quietly, I would have possibly been a very jealous non-believer! Amazing! Typical Douberly parenting I tell ya. Do you do say, week-long boot-camp classes?
I have four campers I will sign up in a heart beat!!!!!
Continue to love reading up on you, and checking for new pics. I am headed to Woodbridge this weekend to do some baby-proofing with L.T. CAN"T WAIT to give the two new big brothers wicked big hugs, and congratulations high-fives!
Thinking of you! And wishing for some Borsch!
    Love Rebecca and Bunch

  3. I'm glad you guys are all getting along... I hope that the journey back to your whole family is swift and not overly exciting. I got jealous of your adoption so we managed to adopt yet another... dog of course! We were going to get an alarm but a German Shepherd puppy found us instead! Gotta love our crazy family! I am off to CCD and SPIRIT... I didn't get to see the new pictures yet... so I am sure you will be hearing more from me later... Yes... a threat. I love you... enjoy the French Fry kisses- reminds me of when I used to get Cheerio ones from Erin and Jade. Sing a country song to the boys for us- yes, you can! Swallow that pride and introduce your new little ones to true Western Culture for me! LOVE YOU!

  4. Thanks! Thanks! for the pics. Looks like fun was had by all.

I am on the phone w/Aunt Betsy and she said to let you know how much she is enjoying the blog and the pictures. She can't comment from work. So, she e-mails me and let's me know that you have updated the site. She went shopping today for Alex and Andrew and will be sending a package for all four boys...to bad Lamar you got left out...must have something to do with being old...ha! ha! Aunt Betsy

I am so proud of each of you that you would open your heart and your home to give these boys happiness. It reminds me of my childhood when Grandma Parks was a foster parent. Back then we just thought Mama baby sat. We loved to have babies come into our home and then be adopted out. We, as children, didn't know she was a foster parent. I never knew that my own son would be adopting and sharing his love with his beautiful wife and mother of Josh and Jake. Kris, I love you dearly and am so proud to have you as my daughter-in-law. Your heart is as big as the size of Texas, as Aunt Betsy would say.

I won't go on forever, just love you all tons...Mom

They were reading the blog when I skyped them! I love the pictures. It assures me that everything is going well, and that God is good. I love you tons, and can't wait for you to get back to the states. Love, Aunt Teresa
