Love to all.
Kris
NOTE: I just went through and made all of the corrections. Somehow when I did spellcheck I cancelled out Yarik's poor name. So sorry....I'll be more careful!
Dear Joshua and Jacob,
We were so touched to hear Nana C and Papa J are quizzing you on Drew and Alex facts. Here are some more to add to your studies:
Right now while they are in the orphanage, we are calling them Kolya and Yarik. We "should" be bringing them back to our apartment by next Friday. Yeah! At that time Daddy and I will start calling them Andrew Kolya and Alexander Yarik. I know it is a mouthful, but this will help with their transition.
Soon, we will be able to drop their middle names when addressing them, once they get used to it. Just remember, their entire lives they have gone by Kolya and Yaroslav. They don't know who Andrew and Alexander are. It would be like one day waking up and daddy and I started calling you Barney and Fred. You would never look at us if we called you! It's the same thing. We just need to give them time.
Also, to add to the homework Nana C and Papa J are teaching you, we would like you to learn some Russian so you can help communicate with the boys. They don't know ANY English and we don't have ANY Russian or Ukrainian friends. We need to help them not get homesick by being able to communicate with them certain simple phrases. We will teach you a few new words each night during Skype. You can write them down and practice with each other so it is comfortable when we come home in a few weeks.
Alright. Here are some more facts we learned today by spending time with Kolya and Yarik. You can add these to the chart Nana C has made for you. Kolya (the eldest)....He is 4 years old and his birthday is December 19th. However, we have the option to change his birthday when we apply for his birth certificate and passport. We are going to do that with both boys. As sweet and kind as Kolya is, he isn't nearly ready to start kindergarten next year...especially since he doesn't know any English yet. I would like to have another year with him, so we are going to push his birthday back a year. Therefore, he will be celebrating his 4th birthday shortly after we get home in October. We get to pick the day. Does anyone have any input or suggestions about a particular date in October for us to have for his birthday? We are open to suggestions...
Kolya also loves bugs just like you, Jacob. We found a nest of lady bugs that they call "fire house bugs". Yarik could have cared less. Kolya LOVED them. I can picture the two of you squatting over an ant hill or catching a ton of fireflies together and loving life. You now have someone to share that passion with, Jacob! It takes the pressure off of me! Yeah! (You ALL know how I feel about bugs....yuck!) Some way...some how...he also loves to pretend to be racing fast cars. As far as we all know, he hasn't been in a car since he was dropped off at the orphanage a year and half ago. He gets so excited making car noises and sounds that drool flies everywhere! Watch out! We may need to wear some panchos playing with him! Hee hee hee! Oh, and by the way...Kolya LOVES to eat. We brought him a tiny banana the first visit and he wolfed it down without even chewing it! He is solid, too. I can't lift him to save my life. I expected all kids to me malnourished and scrawny. Kolya breaks the rules on that one! Again, Jacob, you will have another partner in crime. Meal time is going to be insane at the Douberly household. Anyone know how I can get a BJs membership from here?
Joshua, don't feel left out. Kolya reminds us of you a lot, too. He definitely has BBS (BIG BROTHER SYNDROME). He is very protective of his little brother and even though he runs off and does his own thing...don't be mistaken...he always has an eye on Yarik. It's very sweet...just like you!
Now for Yarik. Yarik, Yarik, Yarik. Where do I start with Yarik? First of all he is fearless and FAST! He will keep all of us on our toes. He is a 6 year old trapped in a 2 year old's body. He thinks he is huge. It's hilarious. He takes these giant steps and can already alternate feet climbing stairs. He is already potty trained....yeah!, but he got really excited with us today and had an accident (whoopsy!). He got VERY upset when we had to leave the playground to get him changed. He's definitely got spunk...and his own opinion! He is just learning how to speak Russian and it's the darnedest cutest thing when we make him say Pazhalsta (Please...). You will crack up laughing the first time you hear it. Yarik's birthday is March 14 and he will be 3. However, we will push his birthday back, too, to buy some more time for him to catch up. His birthday will probably be in November. Again, if anyone has any input as to a particular date...that would be great! Do you guys see what we are doing? Jan...Joshua's birthday (the eldest)...February....Jacob's birthday...November Kolya and December Yarik. Do you seen the pattern?
Yarik can also take a beating. He fell face-first in the dirt two or three times, brushed himself off and kept on going. He never shedded a tear. We were very impressed. He can definitely hang with the Douberly Men's Wrestling time. Watch out. He may be wrapped in a small package, but he is a strong little man. Yikes!
Well, I thought this might help you to get to know your brothers better. I hope this helps. I can't wait for you to meet them so you can see these things for yourself.
We love you and miss you and can't wait to hear about your first days of school.
Hugs and Kisses
Mommy

I enjoyed the update on the boys. I think you are doing the right thing by pushing the birthdays back. There's no need to rush the public education system experience on them so soon. I think it will be great that they have time to "adopt" to their new environment and to get to know their new immediate and extended family. I hope your health is well as I know you have been running on adrenaline and keeping long hours.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Aunt T (AKA...Your Big Sis.)
Wow. It is just so great that you are making these two boys' lives so much better. They will always look back on that, and think of you guys as the best people in the entire world. The boys are ADORABLE, and they look happier now that they have new people to play with. They sure do have a lot in store for them! I can't WAIT to meet my new cousins!! They will fit into your family peferctly, of course!! It will definently be neat to see all four of your boys going to play sports together! All of your outings will be events now?? How exciting!!
ReplyDeleteWe're all keeping you in our thoughts and prayers, and can't wait to seee everybody all together for the first time!! (Oh, and the best birthday in October would definently be Halloween...)
Love you bunches, God bless you,
Erin:)

P.S Thank you for writing to us.
Hello Lamar and Kristina- We LOVE reading about these boys and the pictures show the joy you are all experiencing- thanks for sharing! Good idea with the birthdays, I must say. I couldn't help but remember what you told me about our baby being born on October 31st and how if it happened, it would be a way to celebrate life and rejoice in Gods gift of life, right in evils face. So with that said, I think October 31st is a great day for a birthday! We love you and I'm off to read your next post! Rex, Amber, Nicole, Bryce and Baby Kenyon
ReplyDeleteKris/Lamar - well, I loved the pictures of my new GREAT nephews - cute boys. Of course, why would you think anything different of a Douberly boy - right?
ReplyDeleteI wasn't able to post a comment at work due to firewall issues, so brought my laptop home tonight - it could be a nightly routine! HA! I tried to get IT to "fix it," but was told "I'm sorry - no can do." Ugh!
As for dates for their b'days - of course, being REALLY selfish, my b'day is October 17th - then I thought of Ray's b'day - October 16. Those are two initial thoughts for October. The ONLY one in November that came to mind is the one William wants Bailey to be born on - November 10th. Lamar, do you remember your Marine Corps. history? That's the b'day of the Marine Corps. - thought that could possibly be fitting since that "birth," if you will, is what has lead to your amazing lives thus far!
Well, and then, I stopped being selfish and thought of picking the same day date that Josh & Jake were born - that's kinda neat OR allowing them to pick the day date! Anyway, those are my thoughts and, it goes w/out saying, they will be loved by me no matter what date y'all so choose!
I got a real kick out of reading the letter to the "Virginia-based Douberly boys" - I know you must be having a ball w/your "Ukranian-based Douberly boys," although missing "home" life in the good ole U.S. of A - it won't be THAT long! Easy for me to say, huh?
Pazhalsta tell them I can't wait to meet them (knowing they won't understand the message). Don't be too impressed - I have to confess that I cut and pasted the "please" - HA!
Enjoyed the "2-fer" blogging of today!
Love and prayers,
Aunt Betsy

Kris and Lamar and my two new grandsons, Nikolai and Koyla, Please let them know that Nana and Papa are waiting to meet them and love them already, even from afar. They are adorable little boys and have adorable big brothers back in the states waiting to greet them.
ReplyDeleteJosh and Jake, Nana is so proud of you both for all the prayers you have been sending for your Mommy and Daddy to know just which siblings are to be included in the Douberly household. You are doing a fantastic job of learning new Ukranian words so you will be able to converse with them when they arrive. Nana C and Papa J are doing a great job with you and I know how much you love them. Glad your first day of school went well and I'll be praying for both of you as well as your new brothers.
We are still praying that all goes well and it won't be long and everyone will be home together. Take care, Love, Mom
Dearest Lamar and Kris,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE reading your interesting journal and it's the highlight of my day. I look forward to new posting daily and I must say it's time for you both to get a publisher!! I am so happy to know that Drew & Alex are getting a better chance in life. You BOTH are the perfect parents for these adorable boys!!
May I contribute a day for October? I would like to share a chinese proverb. October is the tenth month of the year and 10 is the perfect score. In chinese 10 is pronouns as "SHI". The proverb is "SHI QUAN SHI MEI" literally translated to "Perfect Beauty". Have you noticed that all watch commercial has the hands set at 10 past 10? It's because the watch is a Perfect Beauty masterpiece. And for you both to have 2 perfect boys at home and another 2 on the way, it's like double perfect score!! Therefore October 10 would be a perfect date!! Just a thought...whatever you both have decided, the boys are lucky to have you in their lives!! GOD BLESS!!
Love & hugs,
Helen
Hello! As you know, the boys love your emails and blogs. Joshua insists on making his own comments and we do not change a word because his messages come from his heart. We enjoyed all the suggestions for birthdays. Some people are so creative and I envy them. Sorry my comment is late arriving, but I had several forms to fill out for each of your boys that were due back today. Joshua said he would be in big trouble if he did not have them in his backpack this morning. Jacob said his teacher would give him a treat if he brought his forms in today! Yes. They did have them completed. How could I not honor their requests with guilt trips like that???!!!We love you. God bless.
ReplyDeleteMom and Dad
Kris and Lamar, I pray great things continue to happen to you(for you). I pray you all come home safely. Can't wait to see more pictures. Love to all, The Cadenhead's
